Veggie Oil and Methyl Hydrate/Denatured alcohol
« on: October 23, 2013, 12:30:24 AM »
On my blog there is more info and more photos.
I have also created a 3 can system, similar to the 3 pot system that the video shows (see below).

The difference is the clay holds the heat longer than the metal, but the metal takes out more moisture from the air, so that is the system for me.

Here are the links that I have made on my blog so far.
There will be another couple of updates soon, with videos as well to help out.
ps... I used to like candles but they are expensive, my way I use maybe 1-1.5 oz of veggie oil a night, so it is very cheap to run.

Want a lot of heat fast, use the rolled up cardboard in the can, see top photo! Cook things with that...
carefully !

Stoves

Improvised stoves, backpacking stoves my L-can stove

disclaimer... + + Legal warning, do not do this, consult a specialist, not responsible, this is what I did, if you burn down or die, not my problems!

* * * CAUTION HOT !
use leather gloves or hotdog tongs to remove the can from the top

Note: this should be vented outside as it creates more smoky residue in the air as well as you should have a supply of fresh air for it as well, or you might not wake up!

How Long Does it take to bring to a boil - stoves

Quick answer now, longer one tomorrow...
see the post on the stoves has the answer thereabout 4-6 mins or so..
Now that is what the updated post was going to be about. You can see the burn marks on the metal and I love the colouring so I use them a bunch of times as you can see.

Now i only use 99.9% Methyl Hydrate - Denatured Alcohol for you US peepers.
dollar store alcohol is about 50-75% burn time.. never!!!
other stuff was only about 85% it took, 12-14 and two refills to do it !!!
Fondue Fuel was 85-95% pure, still not good enough 99.9% best stuff

Home Hardware, Canadian Tire, Home Depot all sell the 1 gal Methyl Hydrate for about $11 Gal
For the Lamps, 1 gal of veggie oil was on sale today for about $4.50 a gal so good deal as well
