The Metal Match
« on: May 15, 2015, 11:09:02 PM »
Howdy All,

Looking for a new (old) fire starter that is compact, light-weight and good in all seasons/conditions??

I may have been re-introduced to a new/old method of fire lighting. The Metal Match.....available online at many sources including Amazon.ca. The source from Amazon I used came from Malaysia...ships for free but takes 5 to 6 weeks to arrive.

The metal match is a small (1"x2"x3/8") metal container that holds a removeable striker with wick and a ferro rod - spark generator on the outside of the case. You put a drop of two of kerosene inside the striker storage tube then secure the striker back in place until you need to light a fire. The wick of the striker absorbs some kero. Remove the striker, strike down the ferro rod, create sparks, the wick lights and then you trnasfer the flame to your tinder and viola, you have fire.

I have a bit of a write-up at my blog: http://mtnmanblog.blogspot.ca/2015/05/outdoor-survival-items-part-two.html , drop by to read more. Oh yah, I also built a nifty little pouch to carry the metal match that is also part of my blog post.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

All,

A bit more shameless self promotion.....I have posted another, similar post on The GOOD Plan Blog. A few new pictures. I made two more pouches. These pouches are easy to whip up, if you sew.

Here is the link:

Thanks for the visits to both of my blogs.

Cheers,
