« on: April 09, 2015, 05:49:44 PM »
ive started a website that will be my business for online sales and classes and will also be for a retail store  I was wondering if anyone could look over it and tell me what they think and what I could do to improve or take away and I also will be adding about 10 more classes in the next week
But also what people can suggest on getting investors for the business in the prepper world

Hey Duff... a hearty welcome here. Glad to see you. Good on you for starting a business as well. A few observations if I may and please accept these as just my opinion.

The picture is thought provoking but highly militarized. This may tend to detract from those who see this as a family effort and focus. Perhaps a good choice of words may be... "When you have it and you don't need it.... you may sing a different tune". For most,Prepping is about skills, 'stuff' and being well... prepared. The size of your gun and flaunting it is fairly low on the list of priorities and your pic may alienate some people. Similarly, your reference to 'zombie apocalypse' could cause an eye roll for some who don't see the humor and representative reference. I would also recommend expanding on your course information. IE food storage... are you talking about what to store? How to store? Nutrition? Supplements? Methods of drying and canning etc? Just a few thoughts.

I kinda agree with JAB.. the gun would scare away family participants.
making it look like a miltary site.
as for a pic.. how about a pic of a disabled car with the hood up and a family (or not) beside the car with a small fire and supper on the go.. and the bug out bag (with necessary kit) nearby

everyone can relate to car trouble. when it you add kids to the scenario, it becomes a disaster that needs to be handled.

pick your audience, and then break it down into separate groups, and go from there

there are many scenarios. aiming at tacticool only, eliminates so many other candidates.

just my 2 cents bud.. great start.. welcome

I have used "bigstockphoto.com" for images.  They are royalty free, and pretty inexpensive. You might find something there.
Best of luck!

You can also take a look at Fotolia. Same kind of a deal with costs as low as 75 cents. However that is there best plan and like everyone else they don't want to sell you just one. If you do purchase photos by credits not a subscription unless you are going to but thousands of photos. Fotolia has about 19,000 photos if you search for survival. Of course that covers all types of survival. They also have a few totally free royalty free images that you can download each week and you do not need a subscription for that.
It may never happen. Best to be prepared just in case.

It is very hard to convey your message in a single photograph when you have a complex message to convey. Prepper supplies appeal to a wide audience, preppers, survivalists, homesteaders, bush crafters and campers. Making the situation more complex is that you have urban preppers, rural preppers and everyone in between. Go too hard you loose part of your potential audience. Go too soft and you have the same result. A few photos may convey your message, if you emphasize one over the rest, by size, colour or content  it sends a message that that is your primary focus.
It may never happen. Best to be prepared just in case.

Not to complicate things but what about a collage, say one with a family broken down on the road in a rain storm, one of people in New Orleans during Katrina and one of a person checking the supplies they have prepped. Just throwing ideas out there.

Regarding your courses, for each one you offer make it clear what the 'value' is in each. Make the last line along the lines of...

At the end of this course you will be able to > plan and stock an every day carry bag
                                                               > know where to find water in an urban environment
                                                               > Start a fire with 3 methods
                                                               > read a map and find direction
                                                               > make water potable with 3 methods
                                                               > etc etc etc.
That way people can see exactly what they will take away from your courses and what value they get for their time and money. If people can have actual hands on time it is much more valuable than an educational 'chat'.

For idea's on pictures you can also take a look at any number of home insurance websites. They often show people down on their luck after a disaster strikes.
