Magnesium Fire Starters
« on: February 05, 2015, 10:12:40 AM »
Not all magnesium fire starter bars are the same. The video gives a good comparison of bars and exposes some fraud with cheap fire starters.

It may never happen. Best to be prepared just in case.

I got a Coleman [I think] brand a year or so ago, Chinese made. Don't even know where it's at now. I could not get the darned thing to work right - it took a lot of effort to get a little pile of powder, using both a knife to scrape it and a "saw" [on the back of the knife]. Enough powder to make a flash but not enough to catch anything useful on fire.

Some are much better than others. I have one that is  a fairly good  but it has been so long I don't know where I got it.

Nice video.  Now...  Where to find Doan fire starters in Canada?
Why is it Canadians have a hard time finding good quality stuff?
