It is very difficult to get accurate up to date statistics on this outbreak. This was not the case until the media clamp down occurred. We know that there have been 20,000 have been infected and almost 8,000 have died. They are still stating that the death rate is 70% so that would suggest 7,000 more deaths in the near future. The BBC site below has some of the more complete explanation that can be found on the web. It is interesting that their maps showing the spread of the virus go to November while the stats on actual numbers stop by September. The maps clearly show that there is now containment of the outbreak at the moment and that is getting worse in those countries affected.

It may never happen. Best to be prepared just in case.
