So, to make a broad comment. The death percentage from these numbers is closer to 33%. Much better than the 75% - 90% put out earlier. Given a population of 20,911,562 for the 3 countries at the epicenter of the outbreak, the WHO estimates 13,705 cases and 5000 deaths. Clearly, although these numbers don't add up, it is still a VERY small percentage of the actual population. Terrifying IF YOU GET IT but the potential of exposure is VERY LOW. You have a higher chance of dying in a plane crash or being hit by lightning.

Actually the death rate is much higher. As it spreads and the numbers of infected increase, there were 10,000 reported last week. Those who are unfortunate do not die immediately. Over the course of the virus effect on these 14,00 there will be many more deaths to add to the current 5,000 dead.  The death rate will be around 70%.

If the death rate is 70% to 90% then why do the numbers consistently show the number of deaths to be less than 50% of the number of those infected?  At any rate, it's still a scary disease.

The rate of infection continues to increase so there is always many more newly infected people. In Sierra Leone they have been reporting and increase in cases of 25% per week.  The death rate takes time to catch up with the number of infected because death does not result immediately.
