What have you prepped this week?
« on: July 06, 2013, 06:15:56 PM »
This is a thread that you find on just about every prepping forum.  To be quite honest I never thought that it had much value even though I had contributed to the thread in a couple of forums.  Why little value? Well because prepping is a lifestyle, it is something that you live, so we are always prepping when we shop, when we visit the hardware store, if we browse a yard sale the list goes on. Therefore I thought it was a little redundant to say that I got great deal on canned carrots or Schneiderís wieners so I bought a couple of cases.

In retrospect however there is value in making such statements no matter how meagre the purchase or effort. It allows everyone to see what others are doing. It may spark an idea or perhaps the realisation that whatever was posted may be something that they would be interesting in pursuing. Who knows you may inspire someone to do something positive. So now, with merit established, in my mind at least, I started this thread. It is not just a place to post what your latest scores were at Costco ( :)  my favourite store  :) ) but also a place to describe skills you have learnt, ideas that you are actively pursuing, places you have been and things you have done that have or might impact your lifestyle as a prepper.
It may never happen. Best to be prepared just in case.

Closing off and sheltering the second 1250 gallon cistern. Although this seems like what should be done anyhow for the house. No wait! I wouldnt do it if it werent for preparedness.

Research on training horses.  Re-packed BOB.  Installed BUIS.

Over the past few weeks;
Went to the range for 5 days of camping on site.  Got to work with new shotgun, the semi-auto 7.62 I purchased earlier in the year and the missus got to work on handgun control.

We did a bunch of weeding in the undeveloped back-yard as it finally stopped raining and/or cooking us alive... needed a bushwacker and several hours with a rake.

Paid of some debt... definitely prepping for the most likely scenario (job interruption) imho

Glad to see this thread topic on this forum!

Over the last week my time has been consumed with the Ontario Provincial Meet. Along with fellow organizers Wilde-E and Che we all agreed that the event was well worth the effort. This week there is much follow up to be done. The meet was an example of what can be done when prepper/ survivalist groups work together for a common goal. The event was supported and attended by CanAmPreppers, the Ontario Prepper Survival Network and the United Survivalist Network of Ontario.

Repackaged stored supplies more efficiently in cold storage.

Cycled stocked food items and replaced.

Purchased 6 - 5 Gal buckets in anticipation of storing food stuffs for long term storage.

Topped up 100L of fuel supply.

Sorry Guys (or Gals) but I've read many posts under this heading and the stuff that is posted and I have to say this because I've meet you or know you through posts on other forums. The people here seem to be the cream of the crop but what keeps hitting my mind is ..... shopping list. Yes I know that we are all pretty anonymous on these forums but still there are ways of finding people. It took me 15 minutes for find my brother on the internet who was living in the US and hadn't heard from in 20 years.

The first time I meet Wild_E, the was a group of us chatting. I can't remember what exactly it was about but he used me as an example. The gist of it was if I needed something and you had it. I would take it by any means. I got thinking about his comment afterwards and yes he was right I would. It's human nature, the survival of the fittest and that self survival mode.

Yes there are days I have trust issues and days that my mind sways left or right of center. So on that note ... keep in mind what you post on your brag list because there is aways the possibility of the unscrupulous lurking.

Ummmm
Jwild, was I using you as an example as someone there or poking the bear with a stick?
I have always believed you to be a person of integrity, so I must have been just using someone close as an example.
No offence was meant, I believe.

Now a little dork named Hopitrails, did exactly as you said, took trust and ripped people off.  Shame on me for trusting his/that kind of person.

Good thank you.

I believe that is one of my flaws actually, I have a very visual mind and analytical at the same time. So to express myself I use my hands and incorporate objects and people near me to draw a mental image. Something I should reel in perhaps as some do not think outside the thought process that I have and would take offence to things I am trying to impart.

Thank you, for the life lesson and personality reminder. Hey.. that is a good prep for me, self evaluation is useful, Jwild, cheers.

Wild_E... My comment was never meant to discredit you in any way. Unknowingly you pointed out a truth that I and many other people have. Self preservation. It was straight forward and honest, whether you knew it or not. Using your comment was the best way I could think about for getting my point across.

Thanks, never took it that way but was wondering if I had insulted you, sometimes... I do that by accident.

The only reason that I post my preps is ,not to brag, but to help others with their own shopping list. As for people ripping me off I purchase with cash and face to face, nothing directly online.
