Toilet Paper - How Much Too Keep In Reserve
« on: March 09, 2014, 01:32:57 PM »
Howdy All,

I just posted an article at Mountainman's Mantra on this very topic.

http://mtnmanblog.blogspot.ca/2014/03/four-squares-to-resource-management.html

So, how much TP should you store??

I prefer TP to poison ivy or stinging nettles, so we try to keep at least a year's supply in reserve.

Mountainman.

So do I but it takes up one heck of a lot of space.
It may never happen. Best to be prepared just in case.

Yeah, this is something I'm working on.  Love Costco for their mammoth-sized packs of TP.  Storage will be an issue when I have loads stocked up, though.  Will have to start using the nooks and crannies ;D

To save some space and make it more water proof.

When your sitting around in the evening watching Prepper porn like any of the BBC or older CBC programs such as Tales from the Green Valley, take the to rolls out of their package. Then remove the cardboard rolls in the center one by on. Next, fold over roll and crease the tp roll in a smaller more compact size, place into plastic tote with garbage bag inside the bins. Now you can also use cardboard boxes that has a large garbage bag inside. When done fold and roll over the garbage bags apply tape, this is now fairly waterproof and will store better in a smaller space.
Just my thoughts!

ICRCC and All,

I would like to believe you cannot have too much TP. An excellent investment device. If the SHTF this one commodity may be worth its weight in gold!!! Especially a year or two down the road.

MM.

PS - Those large rubbermaid tubs would be a fairly good storage container, unless you have a rat problem or squirrels. Then you want a metal container.

When I was a kid, growing up.  We didn't have running water, we did have an outhouse though.  Toilet paper was a luxury.  Instead, my father would bring home the old newspapers from work every day.  Remembering those days, I not only try to stock up on TP whenever I get the chance but I also have a lot of old newspapers set aside.

I give you my life experience , but please no question ask.!
When I was grooving up there was no toilet paper. When I was working in Ukraine and Kazaxstan  did not see toilet paper anywhere, actually I stayed in 3 story hotels where on each floor there was only one room with toilet. Main floor had one room with few holes in the floor for the rest of guests.
Somehow we survived

We absolutely will survive when the TP runs out.  There are bigger concerns.  I will enjoy the luxury of it though, while we have it  ;D

I tried using grass a few times but the neighbours would complain every time I went out to drag my ass across the lawn.

Plan A : Large store of TP.
Plan B: Large trunk.

The trunk is full of newspapers less the flyers ( gloss paper is useless) and old telephone directories.
It may never happen. Best to be prepared just in case.

It certainly takes less space to store newspaper!

Another alternative, which I"m surprised no one has brought up, is fine sand. You"ll actually find in other countries, Nepal, Indonesia, Turkey, that it's use has been widespread for centuries. Just wash your hands and...other parts after.
