The Great White North
« on: January 12, 2014, 04:15:40 PM »
Just joined.  I'm another member from Northern Ontario, Elliot Lake to be exact.  I see a few other members from are from this magnificent wilderness.  The Great White North is certainly holding true this year.  We have lots of snow, and too much cold for my liking.  But, that's life, take it or leave it. :P

Thanks for the warm welcome folks.  Yes, this mild spell with rain won't last long Zeker, but I did get out for a real nice walk today, so I'm happy.

Well, Wild_E, I'll do my best not to disappoint you.  But, truth be told, I'm a consummate loner for the most part, and I haven't got too much experience in a group atmosphere.  It does seem like an interesting group though.  Congrats to you for doing a great job on this.

Welcome NaturalPath. I hope you find our little group interesting and beneficial. I know the feeling of being somewhat of a loner but I am also aware of the need for networking and extending out of our comfort zone to build links and supports. Curious what skills and thoughts you bring. Any questions and comments will be gladly received and answered to the best of our ability.

Again, thanks for the warm welcomes coming in.  JustABear, I depend on myself, for everything, and I have for most of my life.  I do understand the idea of networking, and how it might be beneficial to many folks, but I haven't found it to be beneficial to me.  This is where the wonders of the internet come in very handy.  I can find anything and everything I could ever want or need on the internet.  I don't need to be a member of a group to do that.  I'm not saying this to be rude or ungrateful, I'm just being honest, and sometimes my blunt honesty can be taken the wrong way.  As I've already said to Wild_E, I'll probably be a very quiet member, as I usually am in any forums I join.  I do lots of reading though.  To me, the best survival tactic in life is to 'fly under the radar', adapt, or find ways around obstacles, instead of confronting.  I'm very good at this, and it's paid off quite well.  I would say that this is my most important, and most used survival skill.

Welcome NP.  I am (As I'm sure we all are) looking forward learning and discussing all kinds of things with you.  I've found this to be the best forum I've ever been priviledged to be a part of.  I'm sure you'll enjoy your time with us.

NP,

Welcome.

Please feel free to input your knowledge when you can. Everyone here brings some experience, knowledge or life skill to the table. Just telling an "I was there" type story could help someone else.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

Welcome NP. In my younger days I was posted to North Bay, and a friend used to take me ice fishing in Elliot lake. I had a skidoo then, and we had lots of great times. Didn't need no $280 licence to ride trails with. It is a beautiful place to skidoo.

I dont have a skiddoo but take my quad on the skidoo trails.. they sure get mad at me.
I vehemently disagree with the gov giving skidoo clubs the power to make you pay to go on  crown land.

and then to have the club members act like cops with stop checks.

You and me both. I understand that maintaining the trails entail costs  but many of the trails are maintained for commercial purposes. I believe that the trails should be maintained by the snowmobile clubs with volunteer hours and the equipment, if needed, should be provided by the business that benefit.

I have snovmbl. trail across the back of my property  ( appr. 2 km) and last fall without asking me they widen the trail cutting hundreds of young trees. That really P... me off, so this year they will be looking for a new route.
