cpl reviews from across the pond

Item #1 The Swedish Mora Companion Knife.

I like this because it is a decent length (4.1 inch), light, very sharp from the factory and comes with a very practical sheath. It's way too easy to go with the latest massive Rambo knives (which I have) but weight and cost are very important here. The Mora was only $12.99 and weighs just a few ounces and has a great rubberized handle. A classic piece of kit in my opinion.

Item #2 Sawyer Mini Water Filter

0.1 micron filtration in a tiny 2 ounce package. It will filter 100,000 gallons of water. Less capable filters can run up to $100.00 in cost, weigh more and may not have the life of the Sawyer. I think the Sawyer is a game changer and should be in everyone's home and pack. Amazingly priced at $19.95 on Amazon.

Item #3 Etekcity Ultralight Stove

Weighing only 3.9 oz. (with case) and costing only $9.95 this Chinese gadget even has built in piezoelectric ignition. Produces 8,000 - 10,000 btu with standard 1/4 lb and 1/2 lb fuel canisters. MSR and other stoves this small cost $39.00+.

Item #4 GSI Pinnacle Dualist Cooking Kit

Not the cheapest cookset available for two people but it is the best at cramming a host of high quality features into an amazingly small envelope at an ultralight weight. The Dualist will also contain your mini stove and a 1/2 pound (230 gram) fuel canister inside it for one nice neat high performance cooking solution. Teflon coated interior and high heat transfer make for quick cooking times and easy cleanup. $59.00 on Amazon, it is cheaper than comparable cooksets from MSR and others and offers more utility.
