West Africa Ebola death toll hits 337: WHO

http://news.yahoo.com/west-africa-ebola-death-toll-hits-337-132542043.html;_ylt=AwrBEiH4u6FTPDcAFaXQtDMD

A majority of cases, 398 of them, have surfaced in Guinea, where west Africa's first ever Ebola outbreak began in January.

Sierra Leone has registered 97 cases in total, while Liberia has seen 33.

WHO has described the epidemic as one of the most challenging since the virus was first identified in 1976 in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo.

That outbreak, until now the deadliest, killed 280 people, according to WHO figures.

Ebola is a tropical virus that can fell its victims within days, causing severe fever and muscle pain, weakness, vomiting and diarrhoea -- in some cases shutting down organs and causing unstoppable bleeding.

No medicine or vaccine exists for Ebola, which is named after a small river in the DRC.

Aid organisations have said the current outbreak has been especially challenging since people in many affected areas have been reluctant to cooperate with aid workers and due to the practice of moving the dead to be buried in other villages.

West African authorities have also been struggling to stop mourners from touching bodies during traditional funeral rituals.

Not a good thing to hear. While we will likely be able to also contain this outbreak it poses some disturbing questions. Can you imagine what devastation could occur if Ebola or some other deadly disease was introduced into the play if TSHTF? Lack of communications and hence awareness of the threat could kill millions.
It may never happen. Best to be prepared just in case.

With all the recent activity in the spread of this scourge and the increasing number of deaths in an ever increasing number of countries this is one topic that most likely warrants its own thread.
It may never happen. Best to be prepared just in case.

I beleive that most of the virus are genetically engineered. altered. mutated by human hands.

for what? the answers are endless.

I know there have been virus' before man stepped in to 'adjust' them, but these days, it seems that more and more have been resurected for nefarious usues.

the unseen killer. more deadly than armies or bombs.

with our 'gotta get there fast' world. we are one plane-load/bomb-load away from introduced doom.

Posted for fair use and discussion. Looks like the Aussies are taking this seriously.
They are a pretty unflappable bunch, too. No worries, Mate.

Deadly Ebola virus outbreak sparks travel warning

Dr Andrew Rochford and Michael Scanlan

An urgent bid to control the deadly Ebola virus outbreak facing the world has begun, with health authorities warning Australians the spread is of 'significant concern'.

The current outbreak started in West Africa's Guinea in March and within days the virus had spread to neighbouring countries Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Last week, it traveled by plane when a Liberian local flew to Africa's largest city, Lagos.

The virus has killed 670 people so far.

Experts are worried it could now be a single plane trip away from infecting western nations.

Two American aid workers are now among scores of volunteers who rushed to lend a hand only to end up falling gravely sick themselves.

In the worst Ebola outbreak ever, six nations are now on alert, there are more than 1000 confirmed cases and the death toll tops almost 700.

"We're in brand new territory here, we've never seen an Ebola outbreak of this scale across three countries with 1000 people affected, so it is worrying,” Melbourne University infectious disease expert Professor Cameron Simmons said.

Foreign Affairs revised travel warnings just today, saying "the outbreak of Ebola virus in West Africa continues to be of significant concern".

Australians have been advised not to visit Ebola zones.

Those already there have been ordered to maintain strict personal hygiene and avoid anyone with illness.

Meanwhile, frontline agencies are on the lookout for signs of sickness among arrivals at Australian airports.

The Ebola virus kills 90 per cent of those who become infected.

Symptoms are fast and furious, starting with fevers, aches and pains, then moves to vomiting, diarrhoea and bleeding.

The virus is spread by bodily fluids, including contact with faeces, blood and sweat.

There is no known cure, but the global hunt for a cure continues and Australia is leading the way.

The CSIRO has imported live samples of the virus to a high-security facility in Geelong, which is one of only a few on Earth where scientists can analyse deadly human pathogens, wearing oxygen masks in air tight rooms.

“I think the likelihood of someone arriving with Ebola from West Africa is very remote but our public health experts and our clinical experts know what's happening in West Africa and have heightened suspicion at the moment,” Professor Simmons said.

scary stuff

If Ebola Hits U.S., Even Healthy Americans Will be Quarantined
"Well persons" who "do not show symptoms" would be forcibly detained

NEW YORK – Although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is on record that Ebola poses little risk to the U.S. population, the agency still published guidance for airline flight crews, cleaning personnel and cargo workers regarding safe handling of infected passengers.

The advisory begins by describing Ebola as “a severe, often-fatal disease” that while rare, can spread from person to person, especially among health-care staff and other people who have close contact with an infected person.

The advisory then notes the likelihood of contracting Ebola is extremely low unless a person has direct contact with the bodily fluids of a person or animal that is infected and showing symptoms.

Trying to dampen fears of travel to West Africa, the location of the current outbreak, the advisory comments that a fever in a person who has traveled or lived in an area where Ebola is present is “likely to be caused by a more common infectious disease, but the person would need to be evaluated by a health care provider to be sure.”

To assist in the identification of Ebola symptoms, the CDC provided the following description of how the infection operates:

The incubation period, from exposure to when signs or symptoms appear, for Ebola ranges from 2 to 21 days. Early symptoms include sudden fever, chills, and muscle aches. Around the fifth day, a skin rash can occur. Nausea, vomiting, chest pain, sore throat, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may follow. Symptoms become increasingly severe and may include jaundice (yellow skin), severe weight loss, mental confusion, shock, and multi-organ failure.

The CDC advised that crew members on a flight with a passenger or crew member who is “ill with fever, jaundice, or bleeding” and has been traveling from or has recently been in an area at risk for the disease should follow these precautions:
  • Keep the sick person separated from others as much as possible.
  • Provide the sick person with a surgical mask (if the sick person can tolerate wearing one) to reduce the number of droplets expelled into the air by talking, sneezing, or coughing.
  • Give tissues to a sick person who cannot tolerate a mask. Provide a plastic bag for disposing of used tissues.
  • Wear impermeable disposable gloves for direct contact with blood or other body fluids.
In March, the CDC issued more comprehensive recommendations for cabin crew members on commercial aircraft to deal with someone onboard who is ill with a possible contagious infection, including but not limited to Ebola.

The more general guidelines advise airline crew members to treat any body fluid of ill persons suspected of having a contagious disease as if the body fluid is infectious.

The CDC notes that hand hygiene is the single most important infection-control measure, though it also advises wearing water impermeable, disposable gloves and face masks.

Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian government official who died from the Ebola virus after becoming ill on a flight to Nigeria from Liberia, as reported by the New York Daily News, fueled fears the disease can be spread through air travel.

Sawyer had family living in Minnesota and reportedly was scheduled to return to the U.S. in August.

The Associated Press reported officials with Nigeria’s Ministry of Health are monitoring for signs of Ebola some 50 additional passengers on the flight with Sawyer, although so far none have been quarantined.

Separately, BBC News has reported the West African airline ASKY has stopped flying to Liberia and Sierra Leone as a result of growing concern about the spread of the Ebola virus.

Delta and United, the two U.S. airlines that offer direct flights from the U.S. to West African destinations have not altered their flight operations, according to an International Business Times report.

John O’Connor, a CDC spokesman, told ABC News, “It’s true that anyone with an illness is just one plane ride from coming to the U.S., but we have precautions in place.”

ABC News did not report any precautions O’Connor may have specified.

Obama Using Biological Warfare Against U.S. Citizens      <blockquote>               Illegal alien diseases are a ticking time bomb.

All job growth in the United States since 2000 has gone to immigrants, says a new study, while three-quarters of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, and more than half earn less than $30,000 per year.

But now, a deadly threat has been heaped onto those injuries. Although legal immigrants to this country receive a thorough health screening, and are refused entry if they have communicable diseases, that is not true with regard to the hordes of illegal aliens crossing the U.S. borders at a rate of thousands each day. And these invaders bring with them a host of horrific illnesses and parasites, which threaten the health and lives of American citizens, as well as U.S. national security.

The public health menace posed by foreigners storming across U.S. borders has been growing for several years, studiously ignored by the federal government. Thanks, however, to the nation-destroying policies of the Obama administration, the invasion of illegals—fomented by every U.S. president after John Kennedy—and the number of disease-bearing individuals—have multiplied like bacteria in a Petrie dish.

While the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) disingenuously claims that it “has public health controls in place,” the reality is that the Border Patrol, even with assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard, is overwhelmed completely. Its officers are themselves being infected. Quarantines consist of a mere line of yellow “caution” tape, while screening and detention occur only if active symptoms are observed.

Most of the people caught entering the country illegally are released into the general population after 72 hours, with only the merest hope that they will appear for their deportation hearing. Meanwhile, three-quarters of the invaders are never caught, leaving them free to infect Americans.

Nor are all from Mexico and Central America. Many illness-bearing illegals are black Africans, Chinese and Filipinos, some of whom also enter the U.S. from the south.

Mexico formerly prevented foreign nationals from passing through its territory on the way to America. Today, the latter receive Mexican assistance and arrive in busloads at our border.

Diseases and infestations being brought into America include antibiotic-resistant tuberculosis (nearly always fatal), scabies (caused by parasites and excruciatingly painful), leprosy, Dengue fever and chikungunya (often deadly and spread by mosquitoes) as well as Chagas disease, E. coli, hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases including HIV, malaria, chicken pox, measles, swine flu, lice, antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections (MRSA) and now deadly Ebola hemorrhagic fever, among countless others. Are typhus and cholera soon to follow? No blood test has been performed on illegal aliens, although this is the only way to diagnose some of the conditions.

Yet, instead of interning the foreign invaders in prison camps on U.S. soil, the Obama administration actually is promoting these epidemics and deliberately spreading them to a multitude of major population centers, as DHS transfers illegal aliens across the country by public means of transportation, infecting fellow passengers as they go. The official U.S. government website, “FedBizOpps.gov,” recently advertised for “escort services for unaccompanied alien children,” adding to the suspicion that the present crisis was manufactured by the feds, says Dave Hodges of “The Common Sense Show.”

On June 30, Hodges interviewed Dr. Jane Orient, executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Orient warned of the imminent danger of serious disease and virus epidemics, using the terms “collusion” and “biological weapons attack” in reference to the health crisis. Hodges rightly calls it a “depopulation event.”

DHS refuses to allow media interviews at detention centers. Potential whistleblowers among concerned healthcare workers have been threatened with arrest by security personnel, who actually call themselves “Brown Shirts.” What’s next? Will President Barack Obama take advantage of this federally-manufactured health disaster and executive orders already on the books to impose martial law on U.S. citizens? Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet, writing on the news and commentary site “WorldNetDaily.com,” calls the situation “textbook Cloward-Piven strategy to overwhelm and collapse the economic and social systems, in order to replace them with a ‘new socialist order’ under federal control.”

The Cloward-Piven strategy is a tactic formulated in 1966 by Marxist professors and political activists Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, who advocated manufacturing a crisis in order to force a political outcome. In this case, Dr. Lee Vliet referred to so-called “immigration reform.”

Mexico’s assistance to the avalanche of illegal aliens entering this land is an ongoing act of war against the American people. Our federal government’s promotion of the invasion is a notorious and brazen act of treason. They have turned this into a life-or-death struggle for the survival of our nation.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention is completely absent from the scene. The U.S. Congress is obsessed with imperialistic wars of aggression abroad and refuses to defend America. The Obama White House is effectively waging biological warfare against U.S. citizens.

The federal government is now the enemy, not only of the Constitution but of the American people themselves. Governors have failed to call up the militia in defense of their states. By what means should our people expect to defend themselves and their families?

Ebola is a gruesome disease that causes cells in the body to self-destruct, resulting in massive internal and external bleeding. In its late stages, Ebola can cause the victim to experience convulsions, vomiting and bleeding from the eyes and ears while convulsing, flinging blood all over the room and anyone standing nearby, thereby infecting those people as well. This gruesome ending is the reason Ebola spreads so effectively. The virus "weaponizes" the blood, then causes the victim to fling it around on everyone else almost like you might see depicted in some horror zombie flick.

Lots of new news in the last 24 hours: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-28576010

The most notable being that Liberia's government has announced that it is closing down all schools across the country to stop the spread of the deadly Ebola virus. Also non-essential government workers will be sent home for 30 days and the army deployed to enforce the measures.

Its is reported that treatment facilities have reportedly been overwhelmed in the Liberian capital Monrovia. Also  The US humanitarian organization Peace Corps said it was withdrawing 340 volunteers from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea because of the spread of the virus. Sure does not sound good.
It may never happen. Best to be prepared just in case.

Also  The US humanitarian organization Peace Corps said it was withdrawing 340 volunteers from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea because of the spread of the virus. Sure does not sound good.

Interestingly of those Peace Corp, "volunteers" two were also said to have BEEN EXPOSED DIRECTLY TO THE VIRUS, though
no one has said that these exposed workers were quarantined separately from the other workers.

The unseen 800 pound  gorilla in all this situation is the fact that this strain has NOT BURNED ITSELF OUT QUICKLY.
Normally this virus kills its host so fast that it cannot spread geographically, but in this current case I am afraid
that it has become SPREAD THROUGH AIR CONTACT ALONE.
This would account for the well equipped Western doctors coming down with the disease, despite good practices.
If this has happened, every person who has even casual contact could be at risk. My 2 cents, meant  to be taken as
my conjecture only.

For a good read, try "Executive Orders" by Tom Clancy for how this type of virus could be weaponized and be deployed.
