Title: Code words
Post by: grandma on August 27, 2013, 10:20:24 AM
When my children were young we had a code word which was to be used to direct them to run as quickly and quietly as possible to a pre-determined spot and to stay there.  We practised this so that if/when it had to be used there were no "what does it mean again?  Where do I go?".  The spot would, of course, differ depending on where you live, and what the threat was.  The word for my children was "Mousie", btw.

We also had a code word which meant that the person using it was a "safe person" and that the child could trust them.  If there is a non-custodial parent which may take the child out of the country illegally, or you are concerned that someone would try to entice your child under false pretenses, this could come in handy.  It did for us once...

Great advice Grandma we cannot be careful enough with our children.  The world is not always a nice place but a little preparation and planning can make it much more pleasant.  My family is all grown but when they were young we had a similar system for evacuation to a RV point, safe word and distress word. We also used to practice our fire evacuation plan on a regular basis.
