Title: Your Introduction.
Post by: admin on March 18, 2013, 02:05:17 PM
Before you can post in the main board you should introduce yourself here.

Make your introduction descriptive and include:
Your general location.
Your knowlege of prepping.
How long you have been prepping.
What your prepping goals are.

There is a good example below.

Greetings All, Some of you people already know me, for those that don't, well you soon will.
I'm former military, ex-combat engineer, ex-Aero engine tech, also I'm a Mech. Engr. Design Technologist, and some time, inventor. But most of all, I'm a survivor by nature, a prepper by need. I pass on what ever information I may have picked in the past 50 years or so. I wont give advice on subjects that I don't know or have very little experience on, I will research it until I do.
I'm fairly easy going, sometimes long winded. My interests are, Bio-mass water filters, solar heater/ovens, Gasifiers, and Bio-mass heaters.
I hope to share with all and learn more than I have.

Live long and prep to do so. :D

Guess I should of started off here, but recognized a lot of the user names from other forums.

The names Earl. At present I live in the north end of Durham Region in Ontario. I will be relocating to somewhere south of Bancroft, west of Sharbot Lake and east of Madoc, as soon as I find the piece of property that fits all the requirements I'm looking for. For lack of a better term.... "I want my little cabin in the woods"

I'm a pack rat by nature. So I have lots of "junk" ... LOL. All sorts of little things that can be used for my "Experiment in 18th century living".

I believe that "Prepping, Survivalism, Self Reliant Living, Homesteading, etc" are all just various stages of the same thing. To reach the end game there are a lot of basic skills that we need to learn. Each set of skills we learn (and one person can't know everything" bring us closer to were we want to be. To be free and live in a safe, comfortable setting.

Location:  Ontario

Knowledge:  Just enough to get me in trouble; not enough to stay out of it. I have a long list of hands on homesteading skills; some very practiced, some not so practiced.

How long prepping: I grew up in a SHTF scenario without the S actually hitting the fan. So, I know all about life without electricity, telephones and running water medical care ect...I grew up around people who knew homesteading as the only way of life and practiced skills that died with them. Their legacy is that I saw what they did and what they accomplished, and I have a pretty good idea of how to do things if anything got that far gone. There was a very long interval whereby I lived in civilization/cities and now I am back to homesteading with the luxury of civilization included this time. Five years at the present location.

Goal: To get back most of what I lost from my youth; independence and a mostly self-sustaining lifestyle with the ability to do without and just suck it up and get back to work.

Toronto born but don't hold that against me. Mom and Dad were city folk, so had to learn from scratch.
Seven years running around the Canadian Rockies and the last 25 plus years trying to get back to the land, every thing from organic veg green house business/ garlic farm/ raising pigs, chicken, turkeys. Not much of a shot, but all skin clean and carry it home.
Just trying to get as sustainable as we can. Thinking of having young couple in to help get there.

Hi. I am frum southern Ontario.
Lots of military training.
Nuthin prepper, but I am watching the news, and not liking what I see.
Got hunting stuff, but if I get hungry when hunting, I keep a fat brother close by. Warm, self loading meat.
I have just started to think about what to do when the power goes off. Wait 3 days for the Ontario Priemier to arrive with a food basket?
I can survive right now for 3-4 weeks if I have to.
Hope to learn more from you guys.

 Hi,

I have been prepping for several years.  I am part of a small prepper group. We would like to find a community or build one from scratch in Alberta. We want to find Individuals having a mindset similar to the people living in the American Redoubt although I am agnostic.  I would like to live around people who will fight to preserve their rights, liberty and morality.

Politically speaking, I am a conservative not a neo-conservative.  I like people such as  Peter Schiff, Doug Casey, G Celente, Mark Levin, Brian Lilly and Ezra Levant.  I miss our real culture based on truth, morality and liberty.  Also, I hate progressive governments.

Through my career so far, I have been a business controller & manager, an entrepreneur.  I am bilingual (French and English).  I am constantly learning more and more about long term food storage, gardening, water catchment systems and purification, barter items, political and  economic problems related to the coming collapse and much more related to prepping in general.

Hi everyone,

I have been prepping very seriously for the past three years.  I invested a substantial amount of time in prepping because I strongly believe in the high probability of a coming social and economic collapse of the western world.  I believe the western world is in a huge mess right now because it has been slowly “progressing” towards more socialism and communism for several decades.  This “social progress” was in reality a big lie and a progress towards more elitism, more socialism and communism, more taxation and more rules to control every aspect or our lives.  If you do not believe me, go study what the best conservative experts are saying about the real intent behind United Nation’s Agenda 21.  I believe these true, honest and courageous conservative experts are totally right.  I believe the western world will probably collapse because a very corrupted elite (psychopathic?) has succeeded in manipulating and indoctrinating our western world societies with very manipulative progressive/communist and neo-conservative propagandas.  It’s too bad that even Medias like Sun News are not very explicit and clear on this topic.  I spent quite a bit of time trying to understand what has been really going on in the western world for the past decades.  I wanted to understand the root causes of this coming social and economic collapse.  I strongly believe we have been manipulated and indoctrinated into progressivism/socialism/communism/neo-conservatism by a very corrupted and psychopathic global elite. This kind of very dictatorial, manipulative and destructive ideology always fails.  I believe we will suffer the unavoidable consequences of this great political corruption, manipulations and indoctrination into progressivism/socialism/communism and neo-conservatism.  Our true conservative culture has been “progressively” destroyed over the past 100 years.  I believe we need to rediscover and protect our once great conservative culture with all its great values and principles based on individual rights, freedom, morality based on natural law or Judeo-Christian values if you are a believer in Jesus-Christ.  I hope the Wildrose Party can save Alberta or at least reduce some of the damages.

I am part of a small prepper group who consider themselves to be like-minded libertarian-conservatives (True conservatives) that want to be part of a larger group of like-minded preppers in order to better protect themselves against the coming collapse.  We believe that forming a community of like-minded preppers is the best way to protect ourselves.  We would like to either join an existing community or build one if necessary.  We are trying to find like-minded preppers who have similar goals and worldviews and who are very serious and active about prepping.

Concerning my life experiences and general skill set:  I have extensive knowledge of basic engineering skills (mechanical and electrical) since my main background is engineering.  I also know business administration, entrepreneurship, decision making, industrial automation, industrial control system design and all kinds of project development skills like construction projects, home design etc…  I am basically a thinker, designer, planner, builder and doer.  I love high quality results and I hate when things are poorly done.  I am bilingual (English and French).  I also have a pretty good general knowledge of politics, economy, socio-economic problems, cultures, philosophy and psychology.  As you already know, I have strong beliefs in the libertarian-conservative worldview best  described by people like James W. Rawles, Joel Skousen, Glenn Beck, Ron Paul, Juge Napolitano, Edward Griffin, Alex Jones, Gerald Celente, Peter Schiff, Jim Rogers, Doug Casey etc…

Concerning my skills specifically related to prepping:  I have studied quite a bit in many different fields of prepping.  I have invested quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to set up a community of like-minded preppers.  I have invested quite a bit of time to design and build a very reliable hybrid solar-diesel energy systems that will probably be used in our future home or community.  This system is made up of high quality solar panels, inverter, deep cycle rechargeable batteries, industrial diesel generator etc…   I also passed my HAM radio operator license with honors specifically with the intention of using HAM radios in times of emergencies or collapse.  I have been hunting small game with a 12 gage shotgun for many years. I practice skeet shooting regularly with a 12 gage shotgun.  I also do a little precision shooting using a hunting riffle.  I also followed a restricted firearms course in order to able to shoot with a handgun.  I also studied a bit about how to design off-grid homes with a water catchment system, cistern, well, wood and propane heating system, off-grid propane appliances etc…  I also learned a bit about long term food storage, chicken coops, raising rabbits and goats and of course NiMH rechargeable batteries like any other respectable prepper.
I believe I can be of great help to other people living inside our community but I admit I still have a lot to learn to become very effective in many different areas.  There is so much to learn.  This is mind boggling.  This is the reasons why we need to be many like-minded, smart, skilled, positive and hard working people working towards common goals because there is simply too much to know for one (or a few) individual.  I believe that ideally, we probably need to be between 100 to 200 people in order to possess all the necessary survival skills and expect a decent standard of living and decent level of security.  By having people specialize in particular fields, we can achieve a much higher productivity. standard of living and level of security.

 Howdy.

I started being aware of what was going on about 6 years ago. Environmentalism was one of the first things that tipped me off. So, I started doing some research on the subject and learned that thousands of scientists across the world were reporting that global warming was a total fraud and that in fact, it was the opposite, the earth has been cooling down for about a decade. Nobody was reporting on this. Most medias were totally ignoring this fact. This is when I started to see that the mainstream media were hiding critical facts to advance their own agenda. From there, I researched other subjects that reinforced my opinion. I learned quite a bit on economics and politics. I am now sure that we will experience a collapse.

From there, I discovered the world of prepping through James Rawles. I started preparing ever since. I became a licensed HAM radio operator. I also took my Fisrt aid/CPR class with the Redcross. It is a 16 hours course on emergency first aid response. I will be taking my wilderness & remote first aid class pretty soon. This course helps you give first aid with things you only have on hand. I also practice shooting. Many experts are also saying we should be in very good shape and learn some self-defence techniques. Therefore, I have been doing kung fu for 2 years and I follow a strict fitness program. Prior to that, I did 2 years of kickboxing. Apart from that, I learned food preservation with mylar bags. I also know how to sew. I am continually trying to improve my skills in other areas of prepping like home security/security systems, water storage, agriculture, generators, fuel storage, emergency medical response, medical plants etc…

Hmm... well, I have no resume. I do not skin moose, I don't have a bunker and am somewhat forceably confined to the shadow of The Big Smoke, for work purposes. I suppose I do not identify with stereotypes well.
I was raised in the country, camp out of a kayak and a pair of 60L bags for indefinite periods of time, in relative comfort and eat whatever I find tasty growing where I'm standing.

"You can't eat red berries in the woods!!!"
"It's a raspberry, dude. Calm down."

I also look stunning in a kilt.

I woke up one morning realizing that somehow this has become a rare and mysterious skill (I'll let you decide which).
Watching the lights go out in the big city for 24 hours (in '03) really turned the lights on for me to realize most of my neighbours couldn't survive their way out of a wet paper bag if you handed them a map and pointed to the hole. Worse, I suspect most of them would end up doing something stupid in a real crisis and get me killed. Maybe even not in a crisis...
To this I say... "no".
As I'm out in the bush for a good portion of the summer, in various levels of civility, I have tried to keep up a running experimentation of things I've read the 'in theory's of.
As apparently many of you have, I've discovered most of this book knowledge is regurgitated tripe that has been untested by the author. Sure, you might be able to survive on pine needle tea and water lily root, but the taste just isn't really worth it and boiling a nasty root 14 times to make it palatable is not really happy-fun times when you can just eat the next plant over that tastes like cherries... if only you knew which one wouldn't kill you. (insert Crocodile Dundee quote here)
Survival as a hobby and a sport!
Having an outlet (like here) to explore the methods of surviving in a power-dead city (and escaping one), is an interesting addition to my attempt at longevity, especially in a city where people's food is going bad from lack of refrigeration while the temperature outside is sub-zero  ??? .
So much for all that university education.

I look forward to inflicting you all with my opinions and field testing your ingenuities soon!

Welcome Zed...
Excellent intro as well!  Natural foods is one of my concerns and passions. There is a wild edibles and another tree identification meeting in the big smoke tomorrow and Sunday.

We're a pretty friendly bunch around here.  I personally would like to learn more about wild edibles myself.

Welcome, DRM!
I miss the Sask, it's a place like no other.

Mountainman, I have yet to find wild haggis in the fields (thankfully!), but I'm sure I can find a few pics to share of this beautiful country of ours.

Thanks all for the welcome and a Happy New Year to all of you as well. I am looking forward to learning from others here. I am not much into the whole meet up thing though until I get to know folks a bit better, had a bad experience with another so called prepper who was a fraud and scam artist. But I don't mind sharing what I know online in the meantime. I am looking forward to chatting with everyone.

Greetings All
Ranger2012  of Ontario is now Ranger2015 of Alberta. Moved out of London when my (common) wife passed away and was left with nothing. Was offered a place in Alberta, and I took it. For those who know me, know that I dont post BS, I try everything out or research the hell out of it before posting anything.
