Where has the news gone?
« on: December 01, 2014, 02:09:52 PM »
We are bombarded every hour of every day with news, from the TV, from the Radio from the Internet any yes even the printed  media.  Most of the so called news is more to sell subscriptions to the service rather than keep keeping people genuinely informed.  If a news story goes viral they beat it like a rented mule to sell more subscriptions. Most of the news is of little consequence to peppers while as other perhaps not always the most meaningful to the general public is.

Some topics  that are of direct interest to peppers among other groups and were major news stories seem to strangely disappear  before there is  any type of conclusion to the story. Here are a few samples.

Flight  MH370, missing now for nine months with no debris being found. Even the so called experts are now saying that it is still likely in one piece. The old saying out of site out of mind comes to mind. However for the relatives and friends of the passengers and crew nothing could be further from the truth, Our prays and thought go out to them.

The US National Debt.  It may not be in news but it  definitely is not going away neither is it getting any better.  At 17.9 Trillion and still growing this is going to eventually cause immense  problems.

Ebola is an example of control of the media. When news related to Ebola was causing criticism of the Obama administration and Ebola Czar was appointed and BANG no more news. Well what we do know is that before the updates stopped there were close to 5,000 dead and 10,0o infected. It has made news that the WHO did not reach its target of 70,70,60. That would be 70% treatment of infected persons and 70% of victims buried safely within 60 days of Oct 1st. They deaths are reported to be 6,928 and 16,000 infected. Those numbers are very conservative? It will never be eradicated because vectors exist that eleven if the outbreak was totally controlled it will flare up again.

Ukraine makes the new s once every couple of week but the conflict rages on a daily basis and try as the West might to persuade Putin to stop supporting the "rebels" and to seek a peaceful solution it is quite clear that it is not on his agenda,. Again why would it be? He marched in and took over Crimea and no one stopped him and there were no dire consequences so why stop when you are on a roll?

Fukushima a good example why we should not being pursue this technology for electrical generation.  Over three and a half years later and it is still spewing radioactive contaminated water into the Pacific Ocean. Ne end or solution in sight and why would we expect one?  No solution has been found for Chernobyl and that disaster occurred in the spring of 1986.

Katrina was one of  the worst hurricanes to ever hit the United Sates and certainly the most deadly since 1928. While images have faded from out minds in the nine years since the event many would imagine that the damage would have been repaired and life would have returned  to normal. The fact is that while this true for the City of New Orleans it is not so true for some of the outlying areas, especially in the poorer neighbourhoods. Rebuilding is still taking place but one might have expected a full and swift recovery for a major city in one the world's most advanced countries.
It may never happen. Best to be prepared just in case.
