Adapt. Improvise. Overcome.
« on: February 09, 2014, 11:38:51 AM »
Mornin' All,

Adapt. Improvise. Overcome.

Have you heard these words before?? Sound vaguely familiar??

If you have served, you may have fond or not so fond memories of these words. But, I believe that is where I first heard them words. But those words are a program for building a survival mindset. And it does not matter if that survival is on a battlefield, in the wilderness or in a corporate jungle. Success is found by adapting to the environment you find yourself in, improvising whatever is at hand to enhance your chance of survival and then overcome any and all challenges in your way to success & survival.

I have a bit more on this topic at my Mountainman's Mantra blog:

So, what are your thoughts?? Has Adapt, Improvise, Overcome; ever worked for you??

Cheers,

Mountainman.

Indeed it has. I would respectfully add one more stage in this concept... that would be to initially ASSESS !! Look at the situation. Decide what your immediate need is; what you actually need to Adapt to, DEFINE the problem or threat. THEN you can devise your means to Adapt, Improvise and Overcome.
THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS... ONLY OPPORTUNITIES FOR SOLUTIONS

JAB,

I have posted a comment on my blog and have added as you suggested, ASSESS.

MM.

Here is the post from Mountainman's Mantra:

My good friend JustABear at Canampreppers.net suggested I may want to add Assess to my topic. That is a great idea. Before we have to Adapt. Improvise. Overcome. We need to assess.

Assess what you may ask??

First, this assessment is on going. As things change, so should your assessment. Review often and adapt.

Assess:

The Situation
Your Skills
Your Experience
Your Knowledge
Your Available Resources (such as - food, water, tools, supplies, fuel, shelter, etc.)
Threats
Risks
Known Hazards
Options
Plans
Routes
Communication

Then Identify:

Realistic Solutions
Required Resources
Required Skills

Make a PLAN!!!

ACTION your Plan!!!

Review.

Excellent expansion on an idea. Proud to be a part no matter how small.

JAB,

Thanks again.

An idea is a spark, and there is no telling how big a fire can be started by just one spark!!

Wild_E,

Haha, not trying to plug my book again are you?? LOL.

This was just some writing on my blog about adapting to things during bad times. Get folks to start looking around and seeing what is really there and how you can make things work even when you have "nothing".

Sit. Think. Observe. Plan. - We even train the kids around here that is the first action if lost or confused in the field. I did not mention that in my writing (this time), but I believe it is mentioned in my book.

Thanks for reading, buddy.

I never really have looked at it in this way before, but I really have been doing this all my life.  As a single mom without enough $$, I have realised I am a survivor and I assess, adapt, improvise, and overcome VERY well.  Now I am bringing it to the level of consciously preparing for bad times, but I still use it in life itself.  Very good advice indeed!
